Just Say When Jerry…

After being introduced by head coach Mike Singletary, who told the team a quick story about his experiences competing against Rice, the greatest wideout of all time shared his feelings on having a great work ethic.

“This is the time to start right now during OTAs. You can’t wait until training camp and for the season to start to say, ‘OK, we’re going to turn it on,’” Rice said. “This team has to come together right now. And if they do that, they have a better chance of going into the season and winning football games.”

He even passed out the three Super Bowl rings he won as a member of the 49ers for the players to check out up close.

“It was very inspirational especially when he passed out the rings,” cornerback Nate Clements said. “It just put things into perspective, when you can visually see rings, it just inspires you to practice harder and work hard at this game so you can accomplish that goal.”

At the very end of the talk, Rice made sure to let the team know that he still could run routes and made the comment looking and pointing directly at Clements.

“He called me out, but he knows I’m still with it,” Clements said with a smile. “He said he can still run routes and I said I can still cover routes!”

It still amazes me that we used to play Tecmo Bowl against Jerry Rice. Now you have a joking relationship with him. Great article. Thanks for the card. Good luck this year!

Sweet little post. As a lifelong 49er fan since diapers
28 yrs old now it was a pleasure to read Rice passing on the good stuff. You sir are a pleasure to watch and the real corner the niners needed since the departure of Ahemd Plummer. The best run stopping and shutdown corner in the Business good look this season Nate.
